Bonnie

Clyde

I received a text image… what happed? It was a jail break. Bradley had come home to both puppies greeting him at the door. “What? Were the puppies left out?” As he entered more, he saw the evidence. They had busted out. Their crate had always held up and they love it. We don’t know if it was accidentally or on purpose, but either way, they took advantage of the open opportunity. They ARE strong puppies, and they will get even stronger as they mature. Maybe one day I’ll get used to it.

One of the pups swallowed a raw hide whole then threw it back up in the middle of the night. A rawhide in the crate all night meant they had to fight over it! They just had to. They fought so loud that they woke up Bradley several times. He immediately ran downstairs, cleaned the mess, got the extra crate out of the garage and separated the pups. Now Bonnie sleeps in one room and Clyde in another. They whined at first, but sometimes I think they like having a few moments apart. Both of them, will go to their crate on their own. Clyde gets to curl his blankets in the shape of a pillow and Bonnie get to sleep where she wants without climbing over Clyde. Clyde doesn’t have to listen to Bonnie snore and Bonnie gets to get away from Clyde’s aggressive play when she wants. Not a bad idea!!!

The neighborhood cat returned, chasing the same chipmunk. We had decided that the chipmuck has made its home somewhere in our neighbor’s yard. She has lots of landscaping additions that are ideal for shelter. But when it comes out in the morning to eat, the cat is waiting because it has learned its routine. This weekly torture for the pups does offer entertainment as we all watch the cat chase the chipmunk around the car tires. The pups let out crazy noises and pounce at the window, but it never deters the action. GREAT FUN!!!

We affectionately refer to Bonnie and Clyde as Hoover and Bissel. They, mostly Clyde, will put anything in their mouths. They keep our floors clean. This works pretty great in the kitchen, but not as much in all of the other rooms.

The dogs are normally not allowed upstairs too often. But we are trying to grow the frequency so that they understand that it’s their home as well. The goal is, “no poops upstairs, this is mine.” Both Bonnie and Clyde had just been out so I knew it was safe to allow them to roam around a little upstairs. Bradley and I were on vacation, so we were both home. I went upstairs to talk to him and found the pups. Bradley was not in the bedroom, so both pups had jumped on our bed and plopped down in the center of it to relax. (tried to snap a picture but it was blurry) They heard me coming, but never budged. Clyde’s tail was just a wagin’ as hard as he could get it. I, of course, fussed at them and made them get down but I had to pull Clyde off. They were definitely feeling at home.

Both pups are now in their own crates. Clyde was crated during the day once to calm him. He never gets aggressive, but he gets so excited. When you mix this with his power, he can be a little over whelming to people and other dogs. Bonnie, seeing Clyde crated, walked over to the crate and nosed it, tried to open it, then sat beside it. It was heart breaking and precious!

Hanna took the dogs out after dark into the backyard. They had both been in their crates for a little while, so she knew they need to go to the bathroom. She turned on her flashlight just in time to see Clyde walkover to Bonnie, hike his leg, and pee on her. I don’t know what possessed him to do such a thing but even still, I can’t totally put my bewilderment on him completely because she just stood there and let him. Why pups… just why?
